Non-toxic With Supervision

Risks:

  • Poisoning

Iron is an essential mineral for dogs, necessary for red blood cell formation and oxygen transport. However, iron can be highly toxic if overdosed. Most dogs receive sufficient iron from a balanced diet, so supplementation is usually unnecessary unless prescribed by a vet for a specific condition like anemia. Iron toxicity can cause vomiting, diarrhea, liver damage, and even death. Keep iron supplements securely out of reach of dogs. If you suspect iron ingestion, contact your vet or pet poison helpline immediately.

I've strived to find accurate information and tried to remove any ambiguities. I've re-checked these items multiple times for accuracy, but it's always possible that something slipped through unnoticed. If anything's incorrect, please let me know so I can fix it.

When in doubt, ask your veterinarian.

It's important to note that while some items may not be directly toxic, quantity plays a major role. Many human foods are high in salt, sugar, and fat, for example, which can be unhealthy for dogs if consumed regularly or in large amounts.

Remember, even "safe" things can be dangerous in high enough quantities.
